Manage and provide master data efficiently

The result is a central platform based on Pimcore, which serves as a single source of truth for all relevant DB Regio Bus master data. In 80 import processes, one million network points were adapted to uniform standards and integrated into the new system. Consolidation has not only increased efficiency, but also contributed to higher data quality and seamless integration of the bus systems. The implementation meets the requirements for effective, secure and scalable master data management.

Heterogeneous data storage in a wide variety of data formats

Heterogeneous data storage in a wide variety of data formats

The impetus for the project was the goal of introducing a data lake in order to achieve data consolidation. The challenge for DB Regio Bus was the complexity and variety of data in local public transport. This includes various data types such as network points, network point quantities (e.g. stops, masts and depots), corporate bodies, tariffs, tariff systems, concessions (including award procedures, contract data and tender data) and lines. The difficulty lay in the heterogeneity and the lack of standardized processes for data entry, modification and provision. The data was recorded in different systems, with various identification systems being used. This led to challenges in consolidating and integrating the data. The aim of the project was to be able to maintain and provide the different data classes centrally.

A central master data platform

A central master data platform

The optimal master data consolidation on a single data platform for many DB Regio Bus data as a central data supplier required careful planning and implementation. First, a needs analysis was carried out to identify all critical master data and all data sources inside and outside DB Regio Bus. Standards were developed for the structure and formatting of the data to ensure uniform presentation and thus seamless integration and use of the data. Regular measures were implemented for quality control and data cleansing. Pimcore was established as a central platform to consolidate the data and serves as a single data source for other systems via standardized APIs. To protect the data, a separate user management system was introduced to restrict access to the data for individuals and systems. Comprehensive documentation was created and training was provided for up to 1,200 users.
