A new standard for database products

With the Pimcore-based realization and optimization of Index Nominum’s data management and editorial system, we created a new standard for database products — technically and in terms of processes and usability. The data’s consistent timeliness and quality is ensured at the highest level and can be maintained with minimal manual and administrative effort by the international editorial team, thanks to optimized processes and workflows. Further processing and utilization of the data by other DAV publications or by licensees is also ensured in a future-proof manner via an interface that provides up-to-date data in real time.

Information, data management, and an editorial system for 470,000 international medications

Information, data management, and an editorial system for 470,000 international medications

The pharmaceutical database Index Nominum provides users with comprehensive pharmaceutical information on around 470,000 medications, with 8,100 active ingredients and derivatives from 30,000 manufacturers based across 166 countries. Deutsche Apotheker Verlag purchased an earlier database, then integrated it into its own product portfolio. Basilicom was commissioned to redesign and future-proof the technological basis of Index Nominum, implement an editorial system for maintaining the database’s content, and create various interfaces for further data processing and distribution.

A Pimcore master data management platform and editorial system

A Pimcore master data management platform and editorial system

Over the course of several workshops with DAV’s editorial team, we analyzed, modeled, and defined the editors’ usage scenarios and updated individual content cycles, workflows, and the team’s rights and roles. In parallel, we structurally analyzed the existing data, transferred it to a data model using the master data management platform Pimcore, and migrated it to the new Pimcore system. After defining and implementing interfaces for the editors, in a final iteration we tested and once again optimized both the interfaces and all workflows, the rights and roles concept, and the reporting system, all under real working conditions with the editors. A generic interface based on REST as well as individual middleware provided for certain long-standing clients make structured data from the Index Nominum available to any third-party system for distribution or further processing.
